I’m Now a Priest in the Order of Melchizedek

Ordination Ceremony

Hi folks,

On Sunday June 7th, I became ordained in the Order of Melchizedek from the Sanctuary of the Beloved by Rev. Dan Chesbro.   This is a healing order based on unconditional love.

History of Melchizedek.  From www. sanactuayofthebeloved.com

Out of the many incarnations that “The Christ” assumed in order to serve the human condition, one is Melchizedek, a totally balanced being as a Priest and as a King— and spiritually androgynous. Being more “spirit” than “physical”, he/she appeared on the Earth without a birth experience, wrote The Book of Job and the teachings on the principle of “The Law of One”. Upon completing his physical work, through true spontaneous combustion, he left the earth plane. Melchizedek is beloved by many faiths, as a great teacher and prophet. The “School of the Prophets” and the Essene Order are a result of his earthwork.

When I was ordained I felt a lovely energy descend into my body,  and I was filled with a great sense of peace.

Changing Our Relationships With Our Thoughts: Mantra Yoga + Health interview

Here is the unabridged full interview.  A partial interview was included in issue 9 of Mantra Yoga Health magazine.

Laying in a hospital bed with 15 prescriptions each day ruling his life,
Sam Shelley finally said, “Enough!” His life had been a long series of illnesses, each one more crippling than the last. At age 6, a hit and Mantra Yoga Healthrun accident with a van nearly killed him. Since then, the hospitalizations for depression and the anxiety began, eventually morphing into bi-polar disorder, suicidal tendencies and finally multiple sclerosis. During one particularly tough hospital stay, Sam experienced a profound shift — an awakening — that forever changed his life. Eighteen months after that shift, Sam slowly awakened and is today symptom-free (and drug-free).

Here’s how he did it:

Mantra Yoga + Health: Sam, your story is amazing. How did you first realize that meditation would help?

Sam Shelley: I didn’t know it would, but I began to read and was curious how meditation and mindfulness might work for me. I started to get very quiet and over time, I began to see that the thoughts I was having weren’t “me” — they were separate entities. I continued to meditate and separate myself from the thoughts — just note them as they floated by — and one day, I had an awareness. A clarity that spoke the words “perfect spirit” to me, and I then realized that my spirit — who I was — was pure. It was my thoughts that were not — and they were separate from me. I could choose to believe that “perfect spirit” was truth and the thoughts began to have less and less power.

Slowly, the ill health that had been plaguing me for so long began to dissipate. I worked with my doctors to reduce the drugs I was on, based on the reduction in symptoms, and following my perfect spirit, became stronger each day. I now see this as a true awakening and I feel strongly that I’m not that special — this ability is available to each of us, if we choose to see our thoughts as separate and re-write the things we tell ourselves each day.

The Mind is a Liar!

meditation and inner peace
Confused Mind

Over the weekend, I meet a friend at Starbucks and we were discussing our businesses. She asked me if I had to summarize my core message in one line what that would be. I answered; “The mind is a liar.”

I can think of numerous events where I believed my mind was telling me the truth. When I was staring at a bottle of sleeping pills, and writing the suicide note. My mind convinced me that I “wasn’t worthy of life.” How can that be? My wife loved me; why wasn’t I able to see this?

Another time, I was laying in the hospital bed at age 37 unable to walk. After a few weeks, a doctor walked into my hospital room, and nonchalantly told me that I had multiple sclerosis. As quickly as he delivered that news, he walked back out of the room. No big deal to him – he wasn’t the one laying there suffering! After that news, I remember laying their crying. I could feel myself slip into a deep depression. My mind convinced me that “life was over.”  I simply gave up hope that I would lead a normal life. Once again, why I was convinced that the opinion of the mind was the truth?

“Love Healing Blessings”: Experience The Descent Of Grace

healing blessingDuring a deep meditation, I felt the descent of grace, the same grace that descended that triggered my medical miracle (radical remission of multiple sclerosis, arthritis, bipolar, migraines).  Grace had a message for me to offer “Love Healing Blessings.”   This blessing came with a vision on how to give this grace filled “Love Healing”  to the world.

In a blessing, the divine love within me connects to the divine love within you.   When the connection is established, three triangles appear in my vision.  Then I feel this warm, loving energy descending and wrapping itself around us.  This loving grace is clearing the energy fields of any stuck energy, and dissolving the mental mud from our thoughts that are filling our head with the  not good enough beliefs.

The blessing is mostly silent, I offer words as they arise.  A typical session lasts between 5 and 8 minutes. After the session the receiver shall sit for several minutes and allow this love to integrate.

This blessing is offered by donation.

I was frazzled and anxious. As the blessing began, I felt a calming and a release.” ~Mary

Chronic Insomnia Home Remedy: Post Spiritual Awakening

chronic insomniaAfter my spiritual awakening,  sleeping became impossible.   I had a lot of energy pouring through me and I would sleep 3-5 hours a night.  Recently,  I attended the science and non-duality conference and saw Igor Kufayev.   I know that he has a wealth of information on spiritual awakening.    I posed the question to him,  “how do I sleep?”

He gave me a recipe for a chronic insomnia home remedy that is working for me,  and now I sleep 7-8 hours a night.

Before bed,  I meditate in silence for one hour.  I also meditate an hour in the morning   Two hours of silent  meditation a day.

Right before bed I drink a small glass of warm organic milk with a 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon,  and a little nutmeg.

I take gotu-kola twice a day.

Please let me know if this works for you,  or if you have other tips,  and if you’re completely lost on your insomnia issues then we should talk — please feel free to contact me.

Are beliefs harmful?

Are Beliefs HarmfulI had beliefs about everything: doctors, medicine, food, relationships, religion, death, etc.   I can reflect back and see that beliefs that I took as the truth, were only true from my limited perspective.  But I took them as the truth for everyone.

These beliefs created a lot of conflicts when others that did not align with my viewpoint. I also had numerous beliefs about my health, and believed doctors would fix me.  Sticking to these beliefs kept me sick, since I wasn’t fully in touch with my body.

So, are beliefs harmful? A belief is a just a story from the mind that was created from an out of control thought machine.   The mind creates over 50,000 thoughts a day, and only a small percentage of thoughts are useful to solve issues.   Most thoughts are stuck reflecting on the past, guessing the future, or creating limitations through the various beliefs.

Beliefs create blind spots from knowing what is really true.   I would urge you to examine all your beliefs, and drop the ones that do not serve your best interest to stay relaxed and healthy.  If you have a firm opinion about something, this is good sign that is fixed to a belief. Is that opinion the absolute truth?

Through my simple meditation practice, I was able to get separation from the thoughts, and I freed myself from the beliefs.

I have a bunch of articles to read if you wish to learn meditation, or you could schedule a free call and I can get you started.

The never-ending cycle of violence — school shootings, genocide and war

cycle of violence

Read the news, and you will be presented with the daily tragedies.

“Ukraine says Malaysian Airliner with 295 Aboard Shot Down”

“Gaza Toll Near 340 As Israel Presses Ground War”

This one headline captured the essence of the violent world:

“Oregon shooting: ‘This is becoming the norm’ — but will anything change?”

There’s no rational explanation for our society’s cycle of violence. Nor is there a rational explanation for why someone would take innocent lives, whether in the form of a school shooting, downing an aircraft, or kidnapping and then killing the innocent, which starts a war. All those events succeed to keep us living in a state of fear.

Franklin Roosevelt said, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” Fear is a very powerful force; it keeps the mind busy with ‘what if’ scenarios, always thinking of ways to keep us safe when there is no immediate danger. If there is immediate danger, we must take action or perish.

Relax! You’re giving yourself an autoimmune disease!

autoimmune diseaseI was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, Psoriasis, and Psoriatic Arthritis. I was part of the growing epidemic of those diagnosed with an autoimmune disease.

According to the National Institutes of Health, “More than 80 diseases occur as a result of the immune system attacking the body’s own organs, tissues, and cells. Some of the more common autoimmune diseases include type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and inflammatory bowel disease.”

There are many factors to create an autoimmune disease. One factor is the environment. Food, water, air quality and mental state. also contribute. I was frequently under a lot of anxiety and stress, and later diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I never knew how my mental state affected my health, and I was not diagnosed with my autoimmune disorders until a period of time after my bipolar diagnosis.

Just sit with your damn mind!

Just sitAfter stepping out of the shower, I see my nude reflection in the mirror. Immediately, the mind begins to point out the flaws of my imperfect body.

Getting dressed is another challenge. The mind is telling me not to wear a certain pair of pants because they make me look fat. Then the mind is telling me to tuck in my shirt or I will look like a slob.

During breakfast the mind is dreading another day of the same crap. The mind begins to plot out the day making sure to note, “Don’t do something stupid!” I am now concerned about my words and actions. I’m afraid to be honest with anyone, since I want everyone to like me.

A Medical Mysteries Interview with Dr. Clifton Meador

Dr. Clifton Meador

Today, I have the great pleasure of being the host on Day 9 of Clifton Meador’s Virtual Blog Tour.

Clifton’s book Fascinomas is celebrating its launch from February 17th to March 3rd, 2014.

Clifton K. Meador, MD has a gift for filtering through tales and ‘can you beat this one’ stories that are passed around doctors’ lounges and operating rooms, and for coming up with succinct but extremely entertaining stories.

A ‘fascinoma’, as Meador defines, is medical slang for an unusually interesting medical case. He has gleaned and collected and curated 35 such cases from his own experience and the experiences of colleagues who have given permission to re-tell their own blockbusters.

Each case is reads like a short story – the presentation of a strange set of symptoms, the initial response of the examining doctor(s), gradual revelation of further symptoms (sometimes via revealed secrets from the presenting patient), and the final diagnosis.

Clifton’s mantra is: “There is not a medical diagnosis or a defined disease behind every chronic symptom; but there is a demonstrable cause if you listen and search carefully.”

Yesterday, Clifton visited Kathi Casey’s Healthy Boomer Body blog, where she asked him how disease labels can often be harmful to the patient diagnosed.

Today, I’d like to share with you a recent interview I had with Clifton when I asked about how a diagnosis can sometimes keep one ‘stuck’, and the importance of keeping a journal. I hope you enjoy it!

***INTERVIEW***

SAM: I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and migraines.  I was always fearful of what was coming next. Today, I have none of those ailments, I’m a medical mystery. Coming out of meditation one day, I simply knew that “all is well.” That day, all fear dropped away and I followed my intuition in getting off all medicine and recovering the damage done to the body from the various ailments.

Did I cause my ailments? Then later did I “turn them off?”

CLIFTON: Sam, what a great story! This is a difficult subject because it generates so much misunderstanding. My psychiatrist friend, Dr William Mundy of Kansas City KS (check out my interviews with him on YouTube www.doctorswholisten.net) says, “what the mind cannot deal with is relegated to the body.”  That is a powerful statement. He also says, “what is mind caused can be mind cured.” Not knowing you I can only guess that your cure was a mind cure.
No one I know consciously causes disease but unconsciously they can. Mundy goes into much more detail in our interviews on YouTube.

One has to get beyond thinking he or she just made themselves sick or that they are just imagining they are sick. The sickness is very real and it can be mind caused.

SAM: When I was dealing with bipolar disorder my doctor had me fill out a journal that had 10 questions to gauge my well-being. I became obsessed with the book and it influenced how I moved through the world.  For example, if I answered that my energy and mood were poor, I had a terrible day.

Is there a benefit to keeping a dairy for our symptoms?

CLIFTON:  I think diary keeping is best used when someone has chronic recurring symptoms – symptoms in the body that come and go. In those cases, there is often a toxic personal relationship or a toxic physical substance producing the stress that is still out of conscious awareness. The diary method helps to bring the “cause” into full consciousness. Only then can it be addressed or eliminated.

SAM: After I healed, I saw how the labels of my diagnosis kept me stuck. I told myself “I’m bipolar – I’m supposed to act this way” or “I have MS, I supposed to be disabled!”

How can these labels cause us harm?

CLIFTON: That is really a good question. I made up a dictum that says, “There is not a medical diagnosis behind every symptom but there is a demonstrable cause if one looks carefully and long enough.” Labels, especially if they are wrong or inaccurate, completely remove the patient from an honest search for causes. With a label or diagnosis, they have a name for their condition. They can tell friends. They can read about it. They can believe they are stuck with the named condition. Michael Balint in Scotland said “once a doctor and a patient agree on a name for a chronic illness, that illness, present or not, becomes incurable.” I found that removal of a false diagnosis is very difficult in some patients.

*** END OF INTERVIEW***

I hope you enjoyed this brief interview with Dr. Clifton Meador Fascinomas – fascinating medical mysteries is Clifton’s 13th book on medical matters. The response to True Medical Detective Stories led him to collect and write the 35 cases in Fascinomas. In Fascinomas, all of the clinical facts are completely true – the story of the illness, all lab work, all imaging studies, and the physical exam findings. If you are intrigued by the curative power of listening and engaging the patient and the family in searching for clues, especially when the symptoms are chronic and recurring – pick up Fascinomas.
